Back in the throws of 2016, Pokémon GO very quickly and very suddenly became the most played mobile game ever to have been released. While the game wasn’t exactly perfect, it attempted a number of different systems and mechanics that made the augmented-reality game quite fun and enjoyable; at least when it worked. 2 years later and it seems that The Walking Dead franchise wishes to do the same with their new game, The Walking Dead: Our World – an augmented-reality title for mobile that plays very similarly to Pokémon GO.
By tapping the zombie, the game then throws the player into an augmented-reality setting and around the player will be spawned a number of different zombies. As you might be able to guess, the objective is to kill all of the zombies around you before they completely swarm you and kill you. To do that, you must pick up a weapon from the environment on-screen, and then tap on zombies to fire it at them; the mission won’t be complete until you’ve killed all of the zombies.
Along your journeys, you will also come across some famous faces in The Walking Dead world, such as Daryl and Michonne – both staples of the series at this point. They will both lend the player a hand and look somewhat funky in pictures as well!
So far, there hasn’t been too much revealed about the game, but the items and resources in the game are going to be acquired by fighting walkers, collecting stashes, and general mission completions. What the items will be remain to be seen, however, the likelihood is that they will typically be used to heal you, and potentially improve your overall character and damage, but that’s just an assumption.
For the time being, though, we’re simply going to have to wait and see with what happens to The Walking Dead: Our World, but from what we’ve seen so far, it’s simply going to be another variety of the Pokémon GO phase that died out about a year and a half ago. With this in mind, though, if they manage to keep things interesting for the player and with a reason to keep coming back, then Our World might just be the next AR game to take the world by storm. That is providing the development team take any potential bugs and get them fixed as soon as possible; something that Pokémon GO never managed to follow through on.
