Starfield – Designed for Next-Gen Consoles

Posted on by Max Linsdell

Bethesda have been known for many popular series: Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Wolfenstein. They are a developer known for some of the most popular single-player experiences in the modern day, but they aren’t exactly known for coming up with new IP’s all that often. That’s why it came as such a surprise when they announced a brand-new game, known only as Starfield. From the reveal trailer, it seems that Starfield is set to be a new epic, sci-fi experience that focuses on the single-player to keep players enthralled from day one. Even though we don’t know all that much about Starfield as of right now, we do, in fact, know one thing about the game, and that it’s designed to be for the next-generation of consoles.

Before delving too much into that, it should be noted that they have revealed that it’s not out of the realm of possibility to be released on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. In the same quote, however, they also stated that it’s possible for the development to skip onto the next-generation entirely and that’s a fascinating prospect to consider.

Oddly enough, though, when executive producer and director Todd Howard said it would be next-generation, he did in fact mean for the hardware, software, and the gameplay as well; creating a combination of the 3. What this could mean for the game and the industry is another matter entirely, but it just goes to show that Bethesda knows how they want to make their new title, they’re just being very careful with their dates and what they want to show to the public right now.

It should be stated, Todd Howard did not say the word console, implying to some degree that the title would be coming to PC as well. Although, when considering just how big the modding community is for many of their games, it would seem to be a very peculiar decision if they decided not to bring their newest franchise onto one of the most popular platforms as of right now.

What Starfield becomes remains to be seen, but it doesn’t seem surprising that many fans are hoping it’s absolutely nothing like No Man’s Sky on release; considering that it was the latest space-faring adventure the industry got to play. As of right now, almost nothing is known about Starfield and by the sounds of the development, it’s going to take a little bit longer before we know anything concrete about the game but knowing Bethesda’s track-record for the majority of their games, it’s hard to imagine the industry and gamers alike have much to worry about.
